Celebrating 58 years of GALEX: A journey through Galesburg art

What began as a regional exhibition has grown into a national competition/exhibition celebrating its 58th year. GALEX — the combination of the words Galesburg and Exhibition — runs from Feb. 28 through April 5 at the Galesburg Community Arts Center.

In addition to the general opening reception on Friday, Feb. 28, the  will also be hosting its inaugural GALEX Gala on Saturday, March 1.

Tuesday Ҫetin, executive director of the Galesburg Community Arts Center, joined WGIL's Tyler Gumm and Jay Redfern on Galesburg's Morning News to talk about GALEX and everything Galesburg art.

GALEX Gala is a formal, ticketed evening event that will celebrate achievement in the arts, raise funds to support the Galesburg Community Arts Center's endowment and operations, and commemorate the GALEX legacy—all set against the backdrop of our highly anticipated national exhibition.

Ҫetin also talks about the progress of the $3.5 million makeover of the art center, located in the former Odd Fellows Building and Galesburg Antique Mall located at 349 E. Main St.
