City Matters: A new name for the Galesburg airport, strategic plan reveals goals

Galesburg City Manager Eric Hanson joins WGIL's Tyler Gumm and Jay Redfern to preview the Monday, Dec. 16, 2024, Galesburg City Council meeting. The meeting starts at 6 p.m. at Galesburg City Hall.

Among the topics for tonight's meeting are:

  • The Strategic Planning Final Report and Executive Summary Report are provided to be received and placed on file with the City Clerk’s Office.
  • Aldermen will be asked to approve a resolution naming the Galesburg Regional Airport in honor of a local aviation icon — Harrel W. Timmons. If approved, the airport will be known as Harrel W. Timmons Galesburg Regional Airport.
  • Aldermen will be asked to approve the Phase II Engineering Agreement for the Lake Storey Multi-Use Path Project. Phase 1, which will occur on South Lake Storey Road, is planned to be under construction in 2025. Construction on Phase 2, which will run along 150, is anticipated to begin in late 2025 or early 2026.
