REPLAY: GHS Silver Streaks girls basketball @ Normal West

The Galesburg Silver Streaks girls basketball team achieved their 20th win of the season on the road at Normal West on a rare Monday night game. Once again the stifling defense by Galesburg caused all kinds of chaos for their opponent. In the 2nd quarter, they only allowed four shots by the Normal West Wildcats, with all four taken from beyond the three-point line. The Streaks led the entire game and went on to win, 59 -35.
Galesburg was led in scoring by Zaniyah Carter with 14 points, Grace Herchenroder scored 10 points, and Lily Furrow and Jozalyn Kilgore each finished with 8 points. Overall, the Streaks had 10 players contribute to the scoring. The team was 21 of 47 from the field, 4 of 18 from beyond the arc, and 11 of 23 from the free-throw line. The Streaks grabbed 20 rebounds, had 9 assists, committed 9 turnovers, but also caused Normal West to turn the ball over 28 times.
It was a very balanced effort by the Silver Streaks tonight, but Zaniyah Carter cranked things up another notch and was recognized as the Dave's Auto Body Crunch Time Player of the Game. The freshman had a fabulous game, finishing with 14 points, 5 steals, 3 assists, and a rebound. Zaniyah caused havoc all over the court against the Wildcats and her development and growth throughout the season was on full display in this game.

Saturday afternoon at the Peoria Manual Shootout, the Galesburg Silver Streaks boys basketball team in their final non-conference game of the regular season took on state ranked Peoria High. The Lions took the lead early and expanded it to 27 points in the 3rd quarter. At that point, the Streaks poured it on and nearly doubled their point total for the game. They out-scored the Lions 25-13 in the final stretch, but couldn't overcome the deficit and Peoria High won, 69-54. Galesburg is now 8-19 on the season.
The Silver Streaks shot 22 of 49 from the field, 8 of 14 from beyond the arc, and 2 of 5 from the free throw line. The team had 23 rebounds, 12 assists, and committed 12 turnovers. Leslie Kelley scored 4 points, Eden Mayala with 3, and Demetrius Watson and Tobi Kivunina each had 2 points.
Cesaire Bile was a big reason the Streaks were able to make a run in the 2nd half with his impressive, high-energy play on offense and defense, earning him the Dave's Auto Body Crunch Time Player of the Game award. And on his birthday, no less!

REPLAY: GHS Silver Streaks girls basketball vs Quincy

At John Thiel Gymnasium Thursday night, the Galesburg High School girls basketball team suffered a heart-breaking loss in a Western Big 6 Conference match-up with the Quincy Blue Devils. It was a back-and-forth game with Quincy taking at 10-point lead going into halftime. The Silver Streaks took back the lead going into the 4th quarter and kept that lead until Quincy's Myley Longcor drained a 3-point shot with 2.4 seconds left in the game. Quincy went on to win, 55 - 54. With that 1-point loss, Galesburg drops from their shared position at the top of the conference rankings, leaving Sterling the outright leader in the Western Big 6.
Galesburg was led in scoring by Jozalyn Kilgore with 19 points, Grace Herchenroder with 8 points, Ella Herchenroder with 7, and Lily Furrow finished with 6 points. REPLAY: GHS Silver Streaks girls basketball vs Morton

At John Thiel Gymnasium Saturday afternoon, it was a Top 10 match-up as the Galesburg High School girls basketball team, ranked #8 in the state, hosted the Morton Potters, who are ranked #4. A stiff zone defense by Morton caused way too many turnovers by Galesburg, and the Streaks couldn't get the outside shots to drop, which all added up to a win for the Potters, 54-30. Galesburg is now 18-5 on the season.
It was a tough shooting day for the Silver Streaks going 13 of 44 from the field, just 1 of 15 from 3-point range, and 3 of 8 from the free throw line. In addition, ball control was another issue with Galesburg committing 21 turnovers in the game.
The leading scorer and rebounder for Galesburg was Jozalyn Kilgore, who was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch Time Player of the Game. She finished with 13 points, 7 rebounds, 5 of them on offense, and just an overall great effort in the game.

REPLAY: GHS Silver Streaks boys basketball @ Rock Island

Friday night, the Galesburg High School boys basketball team traveled to Rock Island to take on the #9 ranked Rocks at the Rock Garden. There was no upset, but the final score is not indicative of how well the Silver Streaks played and how much they battled Rock Island through 2-1/2 quarters. The Streaks kept it close through the first half, only trailing the Rocks by 4 points going into halftime. Midway through the 3rd quarter, Galesburg pulled within 2 points, but then Rock Island went on a 19-4 run and never looked back. The Rocks handed the Streaks their 6th loss in Western Big 6 Conference play, 73-50. Galesburg is now 8-16 on the season, and 2-6 in the conference.
The Silver Streaks shot 22 of 49 from the field, 3 of 12 3-pointers, and a perfect 3 of 3 from the free throw line. Galesburg pulled down 31 rebounds, had 13 assists and 18 turnovers in the game.
Ethan Oxley was named The Dave's Auto Body Crunch Time Player of the Game, scoring a career-high 15-points. He had the biggest impact in leading the Streaks and helping to keep the game close heading into halftime. Ethan scored timely baskets when the Streaks really needed them to keep the momentum going in the first half.
