Galesburg Girls Win over Geneseo on Senior Night

The Galesburg girls basketball team got a hard-fought win over Geneseo on Senior Night at John Thiel Gym on Thursday, 42-36. The Silver Streaks are now 23-5 on the season, 9-3 in the Western Big 6 and currently in 2nd place in the conference.
Galesburg held on to win it despite being outscored in the 4th quarter, 15-7. In scoring for the Silver Streaks, Kiarra Kilgore led the way with 23 points. Alexis Edgerson finished with 10 points. Ella Herchenroder scored 5 points. Syriah Boyd and Taylor Herchenroader both scored 2 points. The Streaks were 15 of 44 from the field and 3 of 16 from 3-point range and struggled from the free throw line, 9 of 16. 20 turnovers by Galesburg kept Geneseo in the game. The Streaks out rebounded the Maple Leafs though, 41-20, including 14-6 on the offensive boards.
All of the Galesburg seniors contributed in the win and on Senior Night were collectively named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch-Time Players of the Game. Kiarra Kilgore finished with another double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Alexis Edgerson had 10 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists. Syriah Boyd had 2 points and 5 rebounds. Antonia Kisler had 9 rebounds and a steal, and Addison Peck had a rebound and a steal.

Back To Back Conference Wins For The Galesburg Boys Basketball Team

After going winless in conference play for most of the season, the Galesburg boys basketball team got their 2nd conference win in a row with 54-40 win over Alleman Tuesday night. The Silver Streaks are now 7-18 on the season and 2-8 in Western Big 6 conference play.
The game was close most of the way with Galesburg leading Alleman by 2 points at halftime and also at the end of the 3rd quarter. It was the Streaks defense that kept them in the lead. But then Galesburg opened it up in the 4th quarter shooting 6 out of 9 from the field, 3 of 4 from 3-point range, and 4 of 4 from the free throw line. They outscored Alleman 19-7 in the 4th quarter to clinch the win.
For big timely shots and big timely steals, Cody Jones was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch-Time Player of the Game. He led the defensive press for the Streaks making tough traps with his intensive play. He finished the night with 2 3-point shots that came at key moments in the game for the Streaks as well as a couple of steals.

Second Win In As Many Nights For The Galesburg Girls Basketball Team

In an effort to make up for some games that were cancelled during the last couple of weeks due to the weather, the Galesburg girls basketball team took a long road trip to Serena for a non-conference match-up with the Huskers Tuesday night. It was a battle between two 21-win teams going into the game, with the Silver Streaks coming away with the win, 63-38.
The Silver Streaks dominated the boards with 42 rebounds, including 20 on the offensive end. A good shooting night overall with Galesburg making 38% of their shots from the field. Kiarra Kilgore was the scoring leader with 30 points and notched another double-double with 11 rebounds, as well as 6 steals and 2 assists.
Galesburg played a strong defensive game as well, including a very disruptive full court press. A big part of that effort was freshman Ella Herchenroder who wreaked havoc on Serena's offense, getting 5 steals in the game, and was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch-Time Player of the Game.

Galesburg Girls Win Big Over Normal West

The Galesburg girls basketball team ended a 3-game losing streak Monday night with a win over Normal West, 80-55. The Silver Streaks are now 21-5 on the season.
Kiarra Kilgore led the Streaks with 33 points. Alexis Edgerson finished with 20 points, including 5 for 5 from the free throw line, and the third player finishing with double digit scoring was freshman Jozalyn Kilgore with 10 points. Overall Galesburg was 30 of 53 for 57% shooting on the night.
Alexis Edgerson really got the Streaks running early in the game hitting 3 of her first 5 three-point shots along with a couple of free throws in the first quarter. Alexis finished the night with 20 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal and was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch-Time Player of the Game!

Galesburg Boys Basketball Team Gets First Conference Win Of The Season

The Galesburg boys basketball team traveled to Geneseo Monday night and came away with their first win in the Western Big 6 conference this season, defeating the Maple Leafs, 69-34. The Silver Streaks are now 6-18 on the season.
Tyree Taylor was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch-Time Player of the Game for the energy level and the tone he set for the team in the game. He finished with a career high 23 points along with 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 7 steals.
Overall Galesburg ended up with 30% shooting from the field, but set a season-high from the free throw line making 80% of their shots. The Silver Streaks grabbed 41 rebounds and only turned over the ball 8 times during the game. Gino Williams had a double-double off the bench with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Jace Keith scored 6 points and had 10 rebounds.

Silver Streaks Boys Basketball Team Loses To Peoria At Manual Shootout

At the Manual Shootout Saturday afternoon, the Galesburg boys basketball team played very well and put in a strong effort, but ultimately lost to Peoria High, 69-63. The Silver Streaks are now 5 - 18 on the season.
Galesburg finished the game 24 of 52 from the field, 12 of 26 from 3-point range, and were 3 of 8 for free throws. The Streaks out rebounded the Lions 28 to 23 and only had 4 more turnovers than them with 14. Part of the scoring difference was in free throws, as Peoria High made 15 of the 21 attempts that they had.
For the Silver Streaks, Jackson Crock Sibbing had a career high 29 points in the game, including 7 of 11 3-point shooting. For his inspired play, Jackson was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch-Time Player of the Game. In the 3rd quarter alone, he scored 11 of the Streaks' 12 points for the quarter, keeping Galesburg within striking distance. Tyree Taylor also had a career high with 19 points and he also had 10 rebounds for a double-double. Ian Dominique returned to the court for the first time in several weeks due to an injury and scored 3 points. Senior Gino Williams did not play in the game due to being ejected from Friday (1/26) night's game with a double technical.

Galesburg Girls Basketball Team Falls to United Township

The Galesburg High School girls basketball team continued to struggle with their shooting when they faced United Township at John Thiel Gym Saturday afternoon. With only 30% of their shots made, the Silver Streaks lost to the Panthers, 55-42. It's the third loss in a row for the Streaks, who are now 20 - 5 on the season and 8 - 3 in Western Big 6 conference games.
Galesburg generated 19 turnovers and out rebounded United Township in the game, but then couldn't convert those defensive efforts into points. The Silver Streaks were 15 of 37 from inside the arc, and just 2 of 19 from 3-point range.
The Dave's Auto Body Crunch-Time Player of the Game was senior Kiarra Kilgore who finished the game with 25 points, the only Streaks' player to score double digits. She also contributed 10 rebounds, 4 steals, and 3 assists.

Galesburg Boys Still In Hunt For 1st Conference Win After Loss To United Township

At the Panther Den in East Moline Friday night, the Galesburg boys basketball team once again were hindered by a scoring drought in the 3rd quarter and lost to United Township, 59 - 44.
Galesburg was down by only 5 points at the half, but then they came out flat to start the 3rd quarter. By the halfway mark of that quarter, United Township had gone on an 11-1 scoring run, leading by 15. Galesburg got the lead cut down to 8, but then the 3rd quarter ended with Gino Williams of the Silver Streaks being ejected from the game with back-to-back technical fouls. The Silver Streaks are now 5 - 17 on the season, and still winless in the Western Big 6 conference this season at 0 - 8.
For the second game in a row, Junior Tyree Taylor was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch-Time Player of the Game. He led the Silver Streaks in points and had 9 rebounds. He also scored his varsity career high points in a game with 15.

Galesburg Girls Basketball Team Suffers 2nd Conference Loss

The Galesburg girls basketball team suffered from a tough shooting night at Quincy Thursday night and lost to the Blue Devils, 62-43. The Silver Streaks were outscored in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, 15-10 and 18-10, and even though they made a scoring run in the 4th quarter, the deficit was just too much to overcome. Galesburg is now 20-4 on the season and 8-2 in the Western Big 6. They are now tied with the Blue Devils for 2nd place in the conference.
The Silver Streaks' Kiarra Kilgore finished the night with 21 points. Alexis Edgerson scored 9 points, Syriah Boyd had 6, Jozalyn Kilgore scored 3, and Antonia Kisler finished with 2 points.
Despite being triple-teamed at times, Kiarra Kilgore led the way for Galesburg. She had 4 assists in the game, 3 rebounds, a steal and a block, along with scoring 21 points, and was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch-Time Player of the Game.
