Galesburg Silver Streaks Boys Basketball Team Suffers Another Loss to Sterling

In just over a week, the Galesburg boys basketball team once again played the Sterling Golden Warriors Friday night and lost, 79-44. Last week at the Taylorville Holiday Tournament, Galesburg ended up playing Sterling in a non-conference bracket match-up that Sterling also won.

Galesburg was 17 out of 40 from the field, 4 of 11 from three-point range, and 6 of 12 from the free throw line. The Streaks had 15 turnovers in the game while Sterling only had 6. Jace Keith led the way in the scoring for the Silver Streaks with 19 points and Tyree Taylor had 11.  Nico Battaglia led the Golden Warriors with 27 points, and that's without playing much at all in the 4th quarter.

Senior Jace Keith was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch-Time Player of the Game, not only for the points he scored, but also for his strong defensive play as well. He gave it his all throughout the game, but especially in the 1st half when he went 5 for 7 from the field and 3 for 4 from the free throw line.

The Silver Streaks are now 5 - 13 on the season and 0 - 5 in the Western Big 6 Conference.

Galesburg Girls Suffer First Conference Loss of the Season

The Galesburg Silver Streaks girls basketball team had a tough shooting night Thursday at John Thiel Gym in a loss to Alleman, 56-48. The Streaks got behind early and just couldn't get back into the game as shots were hard to come by for the team. They made only 35% of their shots in the game, including only 4 of 25 from three-point range.  But Alleman shot the ball really well, going 18 of 39 from the field, including 3 of 8 from three-point range.

Galesburg was led in scoring by Kiarra Kilgore with 23 points, Ella Herchenroder with 9, and Alexis Edgerson with 5. Just back from recuperating from an injury, Kiarra was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch-Time Player of the Game. She had 13 of the 15 points that the Streaks scored in the first half. She also had 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 4 steals and a block in the game.

Galesburg is now 17-2 on the season and 6-1 in the Western Big 6.

Galesburg girls claim third place in Coles County Holiday Tournament

The Galesburg Silver Streaks girls basketball team claim third place in the Coles County Holiday Tournament after defeating the Sullivan Redskins, 50-43. The Streaks had a tough battle against Sullivan as they were matching each basket throughout the game. Good ball movement and shot selection in the fourth quarter led to the Streaks grinding out a win. The Streaks finished the tournament at 3-1 and are 17-1 overall for the season.

Senior Syriah Boyd was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch-Time Player of the Game for her performance in the fourth quarter where she went 4 for 4 from the field. She finished with 16 points, 1 assist, 1 rebound, and 1 steal.

The Galesburg Silver Streaks boys basketball team lose their final game of the Taylorville Holiday Tournament to the Rochester Rockets, 66-56. The Streaks had a good start in the first half; however, turnovers caught up to them in the second half as they committed 23 over the course of the game. The Rockets took the opportunities they had to win by double digits. The Streaks finished the tournament with a 1-4 record and are 5-12 overall for the season.

Senior Jace Keith was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch-Time Player of the Game for his role throughout the game being a leader for the team. He finished with 21 points and 9 rebounds.

The Galesburg Silver Streaks girls basketball team lose their first game of the season at the Cooks County Holiday Tournament to the host Mattoon Green Wave, 44-32. The Streaks had a tough start in the first half that saw them having to claw back from double digits. Despite a good effort from the bench in the fourth quarter, the deficit was too much for the Streaks. The GHS Girls are now 16-1 on the season.

Junior Josslyn Peck was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch-Time Player of the Game for her performance in the fourth quarter. She finished with 4 points, 2 blocks, and 1 rebound.

The Galesburg Silver Streaks boys basketball team get a much deserved victory in the Taylorville Holiday Tournament over the host Taylorville Tornadoes, 57-45. The Streaks went through adversity against a tough Taylorville team along with being short on players; however, the Streaks rode an impressive first half to end a six-game losing streak. The Streaks are now 5-11 on the season.

Junior Tyree Taylor was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch-Time Player of the Game for getting the team going right away in the first quarter. He ended the game with 12 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals, and 1 block.

The Galesburg Silver Streaks girls basketball team continue their undefeated season with a win over the Marion Wildcats, 60-34. The Streaks played their second game of Cooks County Holiday Tournament where they won earlier in the day. The girls had a great offensive performance as the shot selection was good all night. They're output force a running clock throughout the duration of the fourth quarter. The Streaks are now 16-0 on the season.

Senior Alexis Edgerson was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch-Time Player of the Game for her efficient shooting performance all night long. She finished with 21 points, 1 rebound, and 2 assists.

Galesburg Boys Lose to Western Big 6 Opponent Sterling at Taylorville

The Galesburg Silver Streaks boys basketball team fell to the Sterling Warriors at the Taylorville Holiday Tournament, 68-48. The Streaks got an early preview of their Western Big 6 opponent whom theywill play again next week. It was a rough day for the Streaks in the tournament as they played a borderline state-ranked team in Sterling; however, the Streaks did go away with some positives as they held their own throughout most of the game despite a short roster. The Streaks are now 4-11 on the season and 0-1 in the Western Big 6.

Sophomore Jaxon Wyatt was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch-Time Player of the Game for his performance throughout the game. He finished with 10 points, 4 assists, and 4 rebounds.

Galesburg Girls Win First Game of the Mattoon Holiday Tournament

The Galesburg Silver Streaks girls basketball team remain unbeaten after an overtime win against the Teutopolis Wooden Shoes, 58-53. The Streaks played in their first game of the Mattoon Holiday Tournament against a school they had only played once in program history. The Streaks began to find a rhythm throughout the game as they were once again without Kiarra Kilgore. Senior Alexis Egderson picked up the slack scoring a career high 28 points. The Streaks made some huge baskets late to force overtime and ended the game on a 8-2 run. The Streaks are now 15-0 on the season.

Freshman Taylor Herchenroder was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch-Time Player of the Game after a string of big plays she made down the stretch. She had a crucial steal along with two big free throws. The free throws were her only points of the game, and she added 2 assists.

The Galesburg Silver Streaks boys basketball team fell to the Jacksonville Crimsons in their second game of the Taylorville Holiday Tournament, 68-36. The Streaks played Jacksonville for only the third time in school history and first time in 30 years. The Streaks were without Ian Dominique who suffered an injury in their last game. Without the presence of one of their leaders, the Streaks could never truly get themselves into the game. The Streaks are now 4-10 on the season.

Senior Jack Hillhouse was named the Dave's Auto body Crunch-Time Player of the Game for providing a spark in the second quarter to drop their deficit to 12 points heading into the half. Hillhouse finished with 5 points for the game.

Galesburg Boys Lose First Game of Taylorville Holiday Tournament

In their first game of the Taylorville Holiday Tournament, the Galesburg Silver Streaks boys basketball team fell to the Marion Wildcats, 68-50. It was the second time ever that the two schools met with the only other game occurring in 1921. The Streaks hung in with Marion throughout the first half; however, the boys did not convert on seven of their first seven field goals to start the third quarter leading to a double-digit deficit heading into the fourth. Despite cutting the lead to 10 points, the Streaks could not generate a significant run to end the game. The Streaks are now 4-9 on the season.

Senior Gino Williams was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch-Time Player of the Game for his performance in the second half despite early foul trouble. He finished with 14 points with 8 coming in the fourth quarter.

GHS Girls Continue Perfect Season with Win before Holiday Break

The Galesburg Silver Streaks girls basketball team continued their perfect season on Thursday (12/21) night with a win over the Pekin Dragons, 37-29. The Streaks struggled early without Kiarra Kilgore in the lineup due to injury as they only scored 5 points in the first quarter; however, the Streaks took control in the second by shutting out Pekin heading into the half. The Streaks controlled the rest of the game to continue their undefeated season heading into the holidays. The Streaks are now 14-0.

Junior Alexis Edgerson was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch-Time Player of the Game. She had a crucial three in the third quarter and went 6-for-6 from the line in the fourth. She finished with 13 points, 1 assist, and 1 steal.

The Streaks will be back in action next week after Christmas to start the Mattoon Holiday Tournament on Wednesday (12/28). The girls will play Teutopolis for the first time in school history. GHS Boys Fall in Final Game Before Holiday Break Against Danville

The Galesburg Silver Streaks boys basketball team fell in their final game before the holiday break to the Danville Vikings, 73-66. The Streaks seemed to have been fighting from behind all night after a tough first quarter. Despite some great stretches including erasing an 18-point deficit with a 17-3 run, they would have stretches were they struggled. The Streaks did not score a point in the second half until the five minute mark in the third quarter which included a stretch of six consecutive missed free throws. The Streaks fall to 4-8 on the year.

Junior Cody Jones was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch-Time Player of the Game for being a spark off the bench for the Streaks. He had a crucial rebound in the third and finished with 4 points.

The Galesburg boys basketball team fell to the defending state champs, the Moline Maroons, 86-49, Friday night at John Thiel Gym.
