The Galesburg Silver Streaks girls basketball team returned to Western Big 6 action Thursday night with a commanding victory over the Geneseo Maple Leafs, 73-32. The Streaks got off to a fast start and never looked back as the duration of the fourth quarter was played on a running clock. Galesburg is now on a 5-game winning streak as they improve to 11-1 on the season and 5-1 in the conference.
The Silver Streaks had a total of 12 players score on the night. Among them, Zaniyah Carter led in scoring with 19 points, 11 coming in the first quarter. Both Eleanor Johnson and Grace Herchenroder finished the night with 9 points. Lily Furrow scored 8 as did Ella Herchenroder. Galesburg went 26 of 61 from the field, 9 of 30 from 3-point range, and 11 of 19 from the free throw line. The Streaks also finished with 38 rebounds, 24 assists, and 9 turnovers.
For her contribution in the fourth quarter where she took advantage of her playing time, Junior Kalei Rice was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch Time Player of the Game. She finished the night with 4 points and 1 rebound.
The Streaks will not return to action until after Christmas. Their next game will be on December 26 as they kick off the Mattoon Holiday Tournament vs the Schlarman Hilltoppers.
