Climatologist: July was 3rd wettest on record in Illinois

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) — The Illinois state climatologist says last month was the third wettest July ever.

Climatologist Jim Angel says the statewide average rainfall in July was 7.12 inches, 3.04 inches above normal. He says the the wettest July on record was in 1958 with 8.10 inches. 

Carbondale led the state with 13.34 inches of rain in July, followed by Downers Grove with 12.95 inches, Rosiclares with 12.94 inches, Godfrey with 12.75 inches, and Greenfield with 12.55 inches.

The statewide average temperature for July was 75.9 degrees, 0.5 degrees above normal.
