Threats made via social media by people disguised as clowns have caused quite a ruckus this week.

Yesterday, Eureka College outside of Peoria cancelled evening classes and activities because of “people dressed as clowns” who made an online threat against the school.

The threat is believed to have inadvertently caused a swim meet involving the Galesburg High School girl’s swim team to be moved.

The Streaks’ girls swam against Metamora yesterday in Galesburg, however, the meet was scheduled to take place at Eureka where the Redbirds have all of their home meets.

District 205 Athletic Director Jeff Flater says 205 officials were asked to host last minute because Eureka cancelled all activities after 4 p.m.

According to swim schedule, the meet was originally scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Eureka.

There have been clown threats made nationally and across the state alleging to kidnap or kill students in schools. While some city’s are dealing with the issue, Galesburg Police Capt. Rod Riggs says no specific threat has been made locally.
