Runner drops 150 pounds, loses home before race

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Tadd Davis knows about overcoming obstacles.

Davis ran the Lincoln Presidential Half Marathon last weekend in one hour, 47 minutes.

Before that, he lost 150 pounds, his home to fire, and finished training while living in a hotel with his family.

The (Springfield) State Journal-Register reports the 41-year-old Chatham resident turned things around in July 2014.

He weighed 332 pounds when he started walking, then running.

By his 40th birthday in September 2015, he was down 150 pounds.

Davis, his wife Mindy, and their son returned from dinner one night in January to find their home destroyed by fire.

His family has lived in a hotel since, but has begun the search for a new home.

He’s aiming to run in the Chicago Marathon on Oct. 8.
