Galesburg woman and man facing numerous weapons charges after Sunday arrest

Sunday, January 10th, just before 6:00 pm, Galesburg Police were dispatched to Florence Avenue for a report of a juvenile with a firearm. According to police reports, the caller told police a male and female came to the residence in an SUV looking for a third individual during a domestic dispute. The male was seen with a firearm under his coat. GPD’s investigation led them to the 1700 block of Indiana Avenue where the SUV was found. The female was 37-year old Nicole Berry of Galesburg; the male was 27-year old Martae West Jr. of Galesburg. Officers, along with Knox County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted a search of the SUV which turned up a 22 caliber rifle, a .45 caliber carbine, hundreds of rounds of ammo, suspected methamphetamine, and suspected cannabis. Police also learned that West had a valid warrant in Knox County for Armed Violence with a $100,000 bond; as well as a warrant out of Tillamook County, Oregon for violation of probation. In addition to the warrants, West was also charged with being a Felon in Possession of a Weapon, Armed Violence, Defacing a Firearm, and Possession of Meth. Berry was charged with Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Violation of the FOID Card Act. Both were transported to the Knox County Jail.
