Darin L. “Howie” Howerter, 58, of Galesburg, Illinois, died Thursday, March 28, 2024, at home.
Darin was born October 12, 1965, in Galesburg. He is survived by his father, Jack Howerter and mother, Beverley (Belt) McCone, both of Galesburg; one son, Michael Howerter, of Galesburg; two sisters, Lisa (James) Blake and Rita (Robert) Fitzsimmons both of Galesburg; one grandson, Adrian, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his stepmother, Delores Howerter and stepfather, Robert McCone.
After high school, Darin served in the US Navy. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Galesburg working different jobs throughout the years and was most recently the warehouse manager at Munson Pool and Spas. He was a member of Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post 381, Abingdon, Illinois. In his free time Darin enjoyed horseshoes and darts.
Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory. Chaplain Jordan Knight will officiate. A luncheon and fellowship will follow at the Thomas Legacy Center. Memorial contributions may be made to the family or to Knox County Humane Society.
