City hires new Director of Finance after months long search

The City of Galesburg has been on the search for a new Director of Finance since longtime Director Gloria Osborn retired in January.

On Tuesday, the City made the announcement that  Jennifer O’Hern has been selected to fill the position starting June 17.

A release says that O’Hern joins the city with a plethora of accounting experience, making her an ideal candidate to lead the Finance Department.

Most recently she served as the District Accountant for Moline-Coal Valley CUSD 40, including preparing the annual budget, audit, and monthly financial reports, as well as supervising the business office, including payroll, purchasing, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.

She brings over 16 years of experience in all areas of governmental finance, as well as a track record of success leading and collaborating on projects and initiatives.

O’Hern holds a Master of Business Administration, with a concentration in Finance from Western Illinois University, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Knox College.

Born and raised in Galesburg, O’Hern says she’s thrilled to be back in her hometown and looks forward to “working with the Galesburg team and making a meaningful contribution to the city and its residents”.
