The City of Monmouth is drafting a weighted system to dispose of vacant, dilapidated properties the city has come into ownership of.
City Administrator Lew Steinbrecher says the council and the public have shown interest in formalizing a process for some time. City Communications Director Ken Helms gave a presentation to aldermen Monday night.
Steinbrecher says the weighted criteria would be used to evaluate competing offers for a lot.
“Obviously any development on the lot that would improve or increase its value would be weighted probably heavier than someone who’s just going to mow it,” Steinbrecher said.
Other criteria include whether a proposal complies with the city’s comprehensive plan and the timing of a project, with quicker build times prioritized.
The Council asked Helms and City Attorney Marcum Spears to proceed with drafting a resolution for a vote at an upcoming council meeting.
