Hoffman Estates Taps Goat Herd for Golf Course Lawn Care

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. (AP) – A suburban Chicago park district is enlisting a herd of several dozen goats to help clear invasive plants from a golf course.
The Daily Herald in Arlington Heights reports that the Hoffman Estates Park District has hired a Monroe, Wisconsin, company that specializes in such work to maintain the course at the Bridges of Poplar Creek Country Club.

The goats remain inside a temporary, 12-volt electric fence that will be moved to different parts of the course every few days over the next several weeks.

Green Goats owner Kim Hunter says the animals initially graze on plants they prefer but eventually will eat overgrown weeds and other non-native plants.
