Johnson, Delores May

Delores M. Johnson, 92, of Monmouth, passed away at 5:33 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2023, at Bounce Back at Seminary Manor, Galesburg.  

She was born on May 1, 1931, in New Boston, the daughter of Jesse V. and Edna M. (Shotwell) Jackson. Delores was raised and educated in Mercer and Warren Counties and graduated from Roseville High School in 1950.  

Delores married Harlan G. Johnson on Oct. 7, 1953, in Monmouth; he preceded her in death on Aug. 3, 2014.

She worked at the Second National Bank in Monmouth as a bookkeeper for several years. Delores and Harlan lived in Chicago from 1950-1967; while living there she worked at a bank and drapery factory. After moving back to Monmouth, Delores was a homemaker for many years. She lastly worked at the Secretary of State Driver’s License facility in Monmouth until her retirement in 1990.  

Delores liked to read, watch TV, cook, and dine out. She liked spending time in Florida during her retirement and traveling. Most of all, she loved to spend time with her family. Delores was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Monmouth.  

Surviving Delores are her children, Frank K. (Michele) Johnson of Bridgewater, New Jersey, Robin A. Johnson of Monmouth, Dawn M. Johnson of Monmouth; one grandson, Paul E. Johnson of Bridgewater; numerous nieces and nephews, and especially great niece, Nicole Taylor, who was Delores’ caregiver for the last 3 years.  

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Martin Jackson, Everett Jackson; and one sister, Joyce Folden.  

Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023, at the First Lutheran Church, Monmouth. Interment will be in Warren County Memorial Park, Monmouth. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 27, 2023, at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth.
