Galesburg man jailed on stalking, public indecency charges after weeks-long search

A man with a listed address of Chicago has been jailed in Knox County for nearly two weeks following his arrest on charges that include stalking and public indecency.

Deshawn Drain, 34, was placed on the Galesburg Police Department’s pending arrest list on April 17 after officers observed him near a downtown apartment he was banned from being near. The petitioner of a no-contact order also called police to report that Drain had been seen behind her building wearing all black with a ski mask.

Police were unable to locate Drain for days until a call came in on April 30 that a man had exposed himself at downtown Galesburg restaurant. That man was Drain. He was arrested and charged with public indecency and violating an order of protection.

The State’s request to have Drain detained was approved in court on May 1, citing previous cases charging him with public indecency.

Drain also faces a felony count of failing to report as a sex offender, as well as misdemeanor charges including disorderly conduct and two counts of violating an order of protection.

He returned to court Tuesday for a preliminary hearing, which he waived. Drain pleaded not guilty and demanded a jury trial.

Drain will be back in court May 26 for a status hearing.
