Police on Tuesday, May 4th met with a 56-year old Galesburg man who told officers a female subject he hired to clean his apartment stole over $10,000 from him. The victim told police he hired 34-year old Amber Williams of Galesburg and sometime between April 7th and May 4th, she sent money through a cash app to herself totaling over $13,432. He allowed her to use his debit card to purchase herself a pair of shoes “one time” according to police reports. Just after 1:30 am this morning (May 7th), GPD conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Williams without working headlights. She was detained and transported to the Public Safety Building. Williams said she and the male victim had had an intimate relationship for months and he gave her money to shop and “pay for my weed”. She said the two were no longer in a relationship, and she hasn’t spoken to him in weeks, but she used the card as recently as Wednesday, May 5th for an unknown amount. Williams was cited for No Headlights and Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle. She was arrested for Unlawful Use of a Credit Card and Theft over $10,000 and transported to the Knox County Jail.
