Courtright, Patricia ‘Pat’

Patricia “Pat” Courtright, 92, of Oneida, died at 5:05 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2023, at Seminary Manor with loved ones by her side.

Pat was born May 7, 1931, in Belleville, Illinois, to Claris and Virginia (Hazard) Johnson. She married Robert Courtright on Oct. 20, 1951. Bob preceded her in death on June 21, 2018.

Pat is survived by four children, Bruce (Sharon) Courtright, Daniel (Shyrl) Courtright, Joan (David) Swanson, and Karen (Charles) Curry. Her grandchildren are Christopher (Amy) Courtright, Andrew (Rebecca) Courtright, David Courtright, Michael Courtright, Matthew Courtright, T.J. Swanson, Brenda (J.P.) Macke, and Lisa (Tyler) Cooley. Great Grandchildren include Addison Courtright, Sophia Courtright, Kaitlyn Courtright, Nathan Courtright, Ivy Swanson, Isaac Macke, Elliott Macke, Owen Cooley, Nora Cooley, and Alex Cooley. Pat is survived by her brother, Claris (Gene) Johnson. Her brother, Richard (Rick) Johnson, preceded her in death. 

Pat grew up in many places, going to three different high schools until she graduated from Galesburg High School in 1949. She participated in 4-H, showing prize winning sheep. She got her Illinois letter in G.A.A. Pat initiated the Future Homemakers of America program at Galesburg H.S. and was its first president. She completed two years of nurses training at Cottage Hospital. After she married Bob, the love of her life, she became a farm wife, keeping the farm records and driving a tractor only when necessary. Pat participated in many community activities. She was a member of Altona Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she was an adult Sunday school teacher, helped with Bible school, was in Mary Marthas, holding multiple offices and served on the Church Council. She and Bob were members of the Criterion Club. Pat served on a Regional WELCA special committee to train churches in the new WELCA transitions. 

In addition to her church work, Pat supported the Victoria PTA and served as president. She was a Farm Bureau Home Extension member. At Oak Run, she was the editor of the Communicator. Pat gladly prepared and donated food as needed and sewed baby blankets and sleeping sacks for many new babies. The hobbies she took the most joy in were sewing for her family, Christmas baking, china painting and traveling with Bob. 

Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 27, 2023, at Altona Immanuel Lutheran Church, Altona, visitation will be one hour prior to services, with Rev. Kristine Dohrmann officiating. Interment will be at the Oneida Cemetery, Oneida. Memorials contributions may be made to Altona Immanuel Lutheran Church, Altona.
