The incumbent 17th District Congressman is now in the list of Congressional Democrats who no longer want President Joe Biden to run for a second term.

Eric Sorensen, writing from his campaign Thursday night, says President Biden should “step aside.”

In the statement, Sorensen says Biden ran in 2020 while “putting country over party,” and now the President needs to do that again.

Sorensen says a president needs to have the “strength and wisdom” to lead the country through “the worst storms,” and to “stand up to the present threats against democracy.”

Sorensen’s opponent in November, Rockford’s Judge Joe McGraw, claims in his own statement issued twelve hours later the East Moline Democrat is playing politics after allegedly dodging questions about Biden’s candidacy up to now.

McGraw claims Sorensen “has gone full on Washington,” and allegedly still supports most of Biden’s initiatives.

McGraw says voters still can’t trust Sorensen.

Both candidates’ full statements are below.
