Monmouth City Council adopts $42.9 million budget for fiscal year 2026-27

The Monmouth City Council has adopted its fiscal year 2026-27 budget, a $42.9 million spending plan that takes effect May 1.

City Administrator Lew Steinbrecher says the largest funds in the budget are the general fund and the water/sewer fund. For the coming year, there is also a significant amount in the state motor fuel tax fund.

Steinbrecher says that money is earmarked primarily for the reconstruction of West Harlem Avenue, which is expected to begin soon with a completion target of this summer.

“There’s been no increase or decrease in either services provided by the city or in staffing levels,” Steinbrecher told WGIL. “So we will continue to provide the same services at the same levels as we have in previous years as a part of the budget.”

The council discussed the budget at its March 23 meeting and held a public hearing April 6 before adopting the spending plan Monday night.
