Eastbound Interstate 74 through Knox County is expected to reopen Wednesday afternoon, with the Illinois Department of Transportation confirming the emergency bridge repairs are proceeding on schedule.
An IDOT spokesperson told WGIL on Tuesday that crews are currently pouring concrete as part of the repair work. The closure was caused by pavement failures in the existing bridge deck over the Spoon River.
IDOT had originally projected a reopening by Wednesday, April 22 when the closure was announced last week — and the agency says that timeline is holding.
Eastbound I-74 was closed at Exit 54 beginning last Friday evening. Drivers were rerouted to U.S. Highway 150 East and Illinois Route 97 during the closure.

WGIL first reported the closure on April 17. Read the original story here.
