Carolyn J. Griffith

Carolyn J. Griffith, 92, of Galesburg, passed away peacefully, Thursday, April 23, 2026, in Seminary Manor, with her family by her side.

She was born March 9, 1934, in Media, Illinois, the daughter of Russell and Ida Labelle (Wright) Mathers. She married Raymond M. Griffith on July 27, 1952, in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on February 13, 2014, after nearly 62 years of marriage.

She is survived by her children, Jeffrey A. (Judy) Griffith of Brighton, Colorado, Jill D. (Larry) Carr of Hampton, Illinois, and Jody LaFollette (John Chezum) of Galesburg; two grandchildren, Dustin (Jessica) Griffith and Chad (Chelsea) Griffith; five great grandchildren, Emerson Virginia, Marlowe Rae, Cayden Raymond, Ike Jeffrey, and Corah Kimberly; step-granddaughter, Jennifer Neff; and two step great grandchildren, Chase James and Gage Mitchell. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and four sisters, Darlene Meacham, Evelyn Rankin, Rosemary Ayers, and Alice Fidler.

Carolyn graduated from Galesburg High School in 1952. She attended Carl Sandburg College, taking business and accounting courses. She was employed at the Knox County Treasurer’s Office for over 30 years. She was elected Knox County Treasurer, serving two terms before retiring. She also attended State of Illinois County Treasurer’s Training Programs.

She was a lifelong member of the Central Congregational Church. Carolyn served on the board of the Gale Credit Union, was treasurer of the 911 Emergency Telephone Systems, was an agent for the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund, and was a member of the Knox County Republican Women.

Family was very important to Carolyn, and she enjoyed spending her time with her children, their spouses, and her grandchildren. She was an avid baker, who loved to share that gift with her grandchildren. Her cinnamon rolls were a family favorite.

Visitation will be 10:30 a.m. to noon Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at Central Congregational Church. Funeral services will follow at noon with Rev. Elder Troy Treash officiating. Burial will be with Raymond in Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Central Congregational Church.
